Boko Haram bombings targeted at Jonathan —Ekiyor
BENIN—FORMER National President of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Dr. Chris Ekiyor, has said the spate of bombings by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram and other security challenges in the country were targeted at crippling the government of President Goodluck Jonathan and make him incapable of governing the country.
The group, meanwhile called on Petroleum Resources Minister; Mrs. Deziani Allison-Madueke to step aside from her office until investigation into fuel subsidy payments by the House of Representatives Committee was completed.
It said: “She has been caught in the web of corruption plaguing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.” Ekiyor, who briefed newsmen in Benin, Delta State, weekend, called on President Jonathan to overhaul the country’s security apparatus. He said: “The onus now rest with Mr. President to assert himself as the President of Nigeria by giving the appropriate charge and firing those who needed to be fired and putting the right calibre of men in place to enable him get results.”
“I have looked at the Boko Haram issue critically and came to the conclusion that a well orchestrated syndicate of people, which did not just start with President Jonathan’s administration had prepared themselves for secession; peradventure if the Niger Delta crisis had continued.
“People were being trained to wedge their own ground if the country decided to break into its fragments. Now that the Niger Delta militants have been assuaged and they are willing to toll the part of peace, these people have cashed in on the situation and began wrecking mayhem on innocent citizens in their bid to cow the President,” he said.
