Delta govt. seals 22 apartments of ex-public officers

The Delta Government, through the Committee on Census of Government Quarters, has sealed 22 apartments of former political appointees in three locations.

The apartments were occupied by ex-political appointees and those appointees with no valid allocation papers to the houses.

Sir Frank Apokwu, the committee’s Chairman, said that the action became imperative, following fruitless attempts to make the former appointees to vacate the quarters for new appointees.
He said that the government had been facing accommodation problems, adding that the eviction of the ex-public officers from the quarters became necessary to make room for the accommodation of current public officers.

Apokwu, however, noted that the action of the former political officers negated extant government rules, adding that after making several appeals to them to vacate the quarters, the committee was compelled to evict them from the houses.

He said that the written and oral notices were given the affected officers before their eviction.
The ex-public officers whose apartments were sealed include the immediate-past chairman of the Post Primary Education Board, the immediate-past Commissioner for Oil and Gas, a former Special Adviser on Intra Party Relations and a former Speaker of the House of Assembly. (NAN)
