We’ll be ruthless with law breakers – Security Chiefs

Security Chiefs, including the Nigerian Army, Police, State Security Service and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Sokoto have vowed to deal ruthlessly with anyone poised to break law and order under the guise of protest against removal of fuel subsidy.

Their position was made known during a meeting with political party leaders, which held at Police Officers’s Mess in Sokoto on Thursday.

Speaking in turns, the security chiefs confirmed that intelligence reports reveal that some political parties were sponsoring armed thugs in order to hijack the peaceful protest being organized by Labour and civil society organizations.

According to them, “We have intelligence reports that some political parties had bought swords and other weapons. This cannot be condoned. We shall not sit down and allow this.”

If we see anyone with weapons, we will treat him as an armed robber and deal with him ruthlessly because politics is not run with weapons,” they said routinely adding, “With the situation in the country, we won’t allow any breakdown of law and order.

Speaking, Ibrahim Magaji Gusau of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC said that until the security agencies became impartial the problem would continue in spite of the series of meetings that has been held between political parties and security agencies.

“If you really mean what you are saying, you have to be impartial. We want to see a level playing ground if you want us to believe what you are saying. I challenge the security agencies on this. We trust you can do it, we believe you can do it but please, do it,” he said. (Vanguard)
