My interaction with SSS was on mutual respect- Shekarau

KANO — Immediate past Governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, yesterday, confirmed his encounter with the State Security Service, SSS, in Abuja, saying it was an interaction based on mutual respect.
Shekarau told journalists in Kano that his visit to Abuja headquarters of the SSS was on his volition, pointing out that such occasional visit has been his past time when he held sway as the chief executive officer of Kano State.

Shekarau, reacting to his quizzing by men of the SSS in Abuja over an alleged linkage and sponsorship of Boko Haram, said his visit to Abuja was predicated on the desire to condole the new Inspector General of Police who lost his wife, Monday, stressing that he was rounding off the visit when a certain personnel of the SSS that had served under him in the past requested his presence at their office.
Malam Shekarau stated that the visit lasted under one and half hour after a friendly discussion  and exchange of thought, adding that it baffled him to learn  that the encounter was celebrated by the media.
He said: “For clarification, my visit to the SSS headquarters in Abuja was normal since it was my tradition while in power to visit such offices and by my status in the society, as stakeholder, what I have done is in order.”

The All Nigerian Peoples Party Presidential flag bearer in 2011 General election said that ‘I would have been surprised if the State Security Services had not interacted  with  him on issues bothering on security raised recently by  an online media.
Shekarau maintained that he was never ‘arrested, detained or granted bail’ as speculated in the local and international media platform, adding that this was so because no formal invitation was sent to him for that visit. (Vanguard)
