PDP SUSPENDS PLANNED RALLY - AHEAD OF ELECTION

Suspension is in memory of the victims of Friday's Kano bomb blasts

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, suspended the grand campaign rally originally billed to take place in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State on Monday.
The Vice President of Nigeria, who is also the chair of the PDP National Campaign Committee for the 2012 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State, Namadi Sambo, attributed the postponement to the sad events that took place in Kano on Friday, January 20, 2012 during which many lives were lost and several properties destroyed.

He said a new date would be announced later.

In a release made available to our correspondent in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prof. Ahmed Alkali, the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, on behalf of the National Working Committee and members of the PDP also commiserated with President Goodluck Jonathan and Nigerians as a whole over what he called “the shocking event”.

“Our hearts go especially to the Governor of Kano State Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the government and people of Kano State over this harrowing experience. May the gentle souls of all those who died rest in perfect peace and may God give the families of all those who died, got wounded or lost property, the strength to bear the loss with fortitude,” he said.
