300 Bombs Found In Kano, More Soldiers Deployed


As policemen from the Bomb Disposal Unit of Kano State Police Command continue to comb the nooks and crannies of Kano City in Northwest Nigeria, for Boko Haram bombs, the search which started on Monday has resulted in the discovery of 300 home-made bombs so far.

As the search for bombs and Boko Haram members intensifies, the Federal Government has deployed more soldiers and other security personnel to the troubled city.
Following the early hour shootout of yesterday morning and another one that lasted about 25 minutes yesterday evening in Kano, more security personnel including soldiers, regular and mobile policemen and State Security Service, SSS, operatives have been deployed to Kano.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the security personnel were drafted to the areas close to the hot spots and were working in cooperation with the bomb disposal unit of the State Police Command.
At least 158 members of the sect have so far been arrested in Kano.

Security was beefed up especially in Kano metropolis following Tuesday’s early morning raid and shootout at the hideout of Boko Haram members in Tsamiyar Boka area near the police headquarters in the city.
Residents claimed the exchange of gunfire between the soldiers and the sect members lasted for about five hours, from 12:45 a.m. to 5 a.m.
At the end of the five hour gun fight, an alleged sponsor of the Boko Haram sect Uzairu Abba Abdullahi and his pregnant wife were killed.

The late Uzairu was identified as a 2002 graduate of Mass Communication of Bayero University, BUK, Kano. The son of the textile merchant was also captured by the security agents.
A military man was also injured during the shootout. But military officials did not give details of the casualties and there could not confirm an earlier report that a military officer was killed by the Boko Haram Sect members during the raid.

P.M.NEWS correspondent in Kano State reports that the authorities have signified their intention to give mass burial to the victims of Friday’s bomb attack by Boko Haram, especially corpses that have not been identified by their relatives.

It was gathered that bodies of victims already identified have been kept in the mortuary in different hospitals in the Kano metropolis.
At least185 persons died during Friday’s attack on Kano City by Boko Haram. Several others were severely injured.
Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero in company of other Emirs yesterday visited some hospitals to commiserate with victims who have been on admission. (PM News)
