States to sign undertaking for NYSC members’ security

ABUJA—FEDERAL Government, Thursday, rolled out conditions for volatile states to receive National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members, insisting that governors of such states must sign an undertaking to take responsibility for any thing that happened to corps members posted to their states.

Minister of Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi, who gave the condition while unveiling the new posting policy for corps members in Abuja, said assurance of security of corps members on radio, television and newspapers by governors will no longer be accepted.
He said: “If they are willing to give guarantee of the security of corps members in their states, they have to write to us and they will take responsibility. There is no state in particular, but we will not post corps members to any state we feel prone to insecurity.”

The Minister said he would personally head the implementation committee of the new posting policy, with the assistance of NYSC Director-General, adding that camp facilities in various states would be improved through the collaboration of the state governments.
Abdullah, who explained that the posting will focus primarily on rural health, agriculture, infrastructure and education, maintained that the scheme would no longer post corps members to private firms, except those whose services fell within the key sectors of the new policy. (Vanguard)
