Renewed cult clash claims 2 lives in Ogun
ABEOKUTA- Pandemonium broke out almost simultaneously in Abeokuta and Ijebu-Igbo areas of Ogun State, yesterday, when rival cult groups clashed, leading to the loss of two lives, while some others were reportedly injured.
One of the victims, reportedly killed within the premises of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state, during a conference organised by the Students Union Government of the institution was identified as Olaide Ibrahim, a Business Administration, National Diploma, ND II, student.
He was said to have been shot dead by unknown gunmen who invaded the venue of the conference on Tuesday following alleged renewed supremacy battle between two cult groups.
The other victim was reportedly killed at Oluwo in Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, which is a few kilometers away from the campus of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, MAPOLY. His body was, however, found the following day.
The deceased, whose identity was yet to be ascertained at the time of this report, was allegedly killed by a cult group in a reprisal attack
Vanguard learnt that the clash was between two dreaded cult groups; Buccaneers and Eiye confraternity which have been at each others’ throat for a while.
The renewed supremacy battle was said to have begun about three days ago when a group was alleged to have started shooting sporadically into the air at Adigbe, a community where some MAPOLY students reside, which later led to the death of one member of an opposing group.
Confirming one of the incidents, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi told Vanguard that the cult clash in Abeokuta claimed one life. (Vanguard)
