Fashola, Senators decry Kano blasts
LAGOS — Govenor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State; Senate Minority Whip, Senator Ganiyu Solomon; Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Housing and Land Matters, Senator Gbenga Ashafa and member, House of Representatives, Mr James Faleke, have condemned last Friday’s multiple bomb attacks in Kano State, in which no fewer than 164 people reportedly lost their lives.
Fashola, who asked all well-meaning Nigerians to rise up and find a path of peace for the country, urged aggrieved persons to seek dialogue first rather than as a last resort. He expressed shock and deep sadness at the death of a staff of Channels Television, Mr Enenche Akogwu in Friday’s multiple explosions.
In a condolence letter to Chief Executive Officer of Channels TV, Mr John Momoh, Fashola said it was painful that the young, resourceful, energetic and diligent Reporter/Cameramen, Enenche Akogwu, could come to such a sad and gruesome end in the course of performing his professional duty.
He said: “This, indeed, must be harrowing times for you, the management and staff of your respected organisation as well as the family of Mr Akogwu. Please remember that you are in my thoughts and prayers.”
Senator Solomon, Senator Ashafa and Mr Faleke also commiserated with the management and staff of Channels over the death of Akogwu and described the death as a great disaster.
Solomon described the incident as becoming too frequent, brazen, daring and called on the Federal Government to take decisive action against the Boko Haram insurgency.
He said: “It is a sad irony that the Federal Government, which deployed soldiers to Lagos with immediate alacrity, has not been able to take any decisive action on the Boko Haram issue while Nigerians are being killed. Federal Government should that know this is time for action.” (Vanguard)
