Ebonyi signs 2012 appropriation budget into law

Governor promises to uplift the standard of living in the state

The Ebonyi State government has signed the N86,986,068,160.002012 appropriation budget into law.
Signing the budget tagged “Budget of Pragmatism” into law yesterday, Governor Martin Elechi praised the Members of the House for the speedy passing of the budget, noting that despite recent upsurge in Ezillo, coupled with week-long strike by Organised Labour, the House remainedfocus in scrutinising the budget.

Elechi expressed optimism that now that the budget hadbeen signedinto law,it would be judiciously implemented, adding that the newbudget would substantially transform the state alongside thetransformation agenda of the federal government.

According to him,his administration would continue to manage, prudently, its scarce resources to uplift the living standard of the people. He stressed that his administration woulddo what was necessary and would not hesitate to tell the people where they failed.

The governor had earlier, during the presentation of the budget, said that part of the money under capital project will be used to complete the 2 water schemes at Oferekpe and Ukawu, procure electro-mechanical equipment and complete the on-going pipe-laying from Oferekpe water works to Abakaliki metropolis.
Responding, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chukwuma Nwanzunku, assured the governor of cooperation between the legislative and executive, noting that such cooperation will be in the best interest of the state. (Daily Times)
