Recently, award-winning singer, 9ice, clocked 32. And he was hosted to a lavish gig at the monthly ‘Industrial Nite’ held at the African Bar, Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos. The bash, stormed by many A-list artistes, however, turned a sort of ‘reunification’ party as many of 9ice’s old friends, whose once-chummy relationships had grown cold, warmed up to the singer.
Among the old friends sighted are ID Cabasa, the Coded Tunes boss, who produced the celebrant’s first two hit albums; Lord of Ajasa and JahBless. The trio, alongside Ruggedman, 2Phat and 9ice, come from the Akoka area of Lagos.
Showbiz Trends learnt that 9ice and Cabasa was seen discussing and poking fun at each other backstage, while he also invited both Lord of Ajasa and JahBless on stage to perform the hit tracks Le Fenu So and Pass Me The Ganja respectively.
Others that performed at the event are Alapomeji Records acts Seriki and Snow, as well as ex-Alapomeji acts Ajayi Brothers, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Vector, DJ Jimmy Jatt, JJC, Coded Tunes rapper Olamide, Dammy Krane and others.
9ice also had the honour of having other popular faces in attendance to celebrate with him. They include Don Jazzy, Dr SID, Terry G, Mode9, Sexy Steel and Tee-Y Mix.
After the monster hit album Gongo Aso was released 2008, Cabasa gradually played lesser roles in 9ice’s career. When the Alapomeji Records boss was working on the third album Tradition, the producer became less involved, while he played lesser or no role in the recently released double album, Basorun Gaa and Versus.
9ice was said to have alienated himself from most of his Coded Tunes allies, especially after his celebrated separation from wife, Toni Payne, and the subsequent biff with rapper Ruggedman. (PM News)
